摘要
Topological insulators (TI) are a rather new class of materials which offer a great potential for applications in spintronics [1]. Their surface electronic structure is determined by both the particular symmetry and a strong spin-orbit coupling, which lift the spin degeneracy of the surface states. In the latter respect, there are certain parallels to metallic Rashba systems, which represent the so-called trivial topology case. Angle resolved pbotoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) [2] has been successfully used for the direct investigation of the electronic band-structure of solids and surfaces, in particular for revealing the characteristic band dispersion of TI systems [3]. After a short introduction into the concept of "topology" and the basics of ARPES, this presentation gives a summary about recent results on Rashba systems [4], topological insulators [5], and related surface systems.
