Human Rights and the Study of American Foreign Relations:A Survey of the Literature

进入21世纪以来,人权史研究已从一个边缘问题成为国际史和外交史研究的学术前沿。人权问题的国际性讨论肇始于20世纪40年代,然而,从40年代末到70年代初期人权问题讨论陷入"死角区"。但是,人权问题在70年代中期以来逐渐演变为美国外交中的热门话题。具有讽刺意义的是美国在21世纪的最初10年成为侵犯人权的主要国家。本文将英文世界主要学者和他们的代表作及其观点等做一个客观而系统的梳理,从而将美国对外关系史研究中的这一新的学术前沿介绍给中文世界的读者们。

Since the beginning of the 21st Century, the and thriving subfield in the study of American foreign study of human rights history has become a diverse relations. This article explores the origins of human rights discussion in American diplomacy in the 1940s, but the discussion of human rights fell into a ＂dead zone＂ from the late 1940s to the mid - 1970s. Nonetheless, human rights have since become a hot topic in American foreign relations. Ironically, the United States was the main violator of human rights in international affairs in the first decade of the 21 st Century. This article offers a comprehensive introduction of major schol- ars and their views, and the contents of important books and articles. The purpose of the article is to bring to the attention of the Chinese academic circle this newly emerging subfield in the study of American foreign re- lations.
