天津教案中的曾国藩与李鸿章

Zeng Guofan and Li Hongzhang in the Missionary Case of Tianjing

近代以来,外国侵略者、传教士与中国民众之间的矛盾不可调和。1870年爆发的天津教案以其打死外国传教士和其他外国人、捣毁教堂数量之多震惊中外。曾国藩与李鸿章先后奉命主持处理教案。在曾国藩对天津教案进行第一次奏结和曾国藩与李鸿章二人共同对教案进行第二次奏结后,李鸿章接手处理教案后续事宜。曾国藩、李鸿章二人因对天津教案处理方式的不同而受到时人不同的评价,并最终导致两人的仕途出现了转折。

Since the Opium War in 1840,the contradiction between foreign invaders,missionaries and the Chinese people can not be reconciled. It shocked home and abroad that the number of foreign missionaries and other foreigners killed,churches destroyed in the missionary case of Tianjin in 1870 was so much. Zeng Guofan and Li Hongzhang were ordered to deal with the case. In the first phase,Zeng Guofan,the chief official,was appointed to deal with the missionary case and came to a conclusion; in the second phase,Zeng Guofan and Li Hongzhang together were appointed to deal with the same case and came to another conclusion. Then,Li Hongzhang,as the chief official,took over handling the same case for follow-up matters. Zeng Guofan and Li Hongzhang got different evaluation of the people at that time for their different methods to deal with the missionary case,and it led to a turning point in their official career.
