摘要
纽约华裔军人忠烈坊是为纪念第二次世界大战期间在太平洋战场阵亡的美国华裔飞行员刘锦而设立的。华裔美国建筑师李锦沛采用中国式牌坊作为纪念物造型的基础,并通过建筑、图像、双语文字、数字及城市家具,将历史与现在、屈辱与荣耀、华族身份与国家认同集结一体,构建了一处专属美国华人的纪念物。探讨了中国风格的纪念物在海外创建过程中所面临的文化冲突与调适。
The Chinese American Veterans Memorial Arch at Kim Lau Square New York s a monument dedicated to Chinese American pilot B. R. Kim Lau who sacrificed his life in the Asia-Pacific front line during the WWII. Chinese American architect Poy G. Lee of Chinese memorial archway in the design of the Memorial Arch and incorp of architecture, pattern, bilingual inscription, number characters and urban f applied the idea orated elements urniture into the monument, making the Memorial Arch a site exclusively for Chinese Americans to reflect their past and present, suffering and glory, as well as Chinese identity and national consciousness This paper discusses the cultural conflict and adaptation when the Chinese-style monument was established overseas.
