The present study, by using a brief version of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES- D) to test 817 hearing-impaired adolescents, 641 adolescents with other disabilities (including those with visual, physical, speech and multiple disabilities), and 894 healthy adolescents, aims to explore these three groups' depression symptoms, as well as the family-related factors affecting hearing-impaired adolescents' depression. The results indicate that the hearing-impaired adolescents showed a significantly higher level of depression than the healthy adolescents across the country, but a similar level of depression to that of other disabled adolescents, and that a good relationship between the hearing-impaired adolescents and their parents is a pretecfive factor affecting the hearing-impaired adolescents' depression.
