汉字是迄今为止世界上唯一连续使用的文字,完整地保存了汉语的整体面貌。这是现今得以研究汉语同义词的形成和发展的前提。中国传统语言学肇始于语义研究,这为我们的语义研究提供了极为有利的条件。从宏观考察,汉语同义词的形成和发展,可分共时和历时两种情况。

The Chinese characters, as the world＇ s only form of writing that has been continuously employed, keep in store a complete profile of the vicissitudes of the Chinese language, making it possible for the study of the formation and development of synonyms in Chinese language. On the other hand, the fact that traditional Chinese linguistics started from explorations in its semantics provides another most favorable condition for our current study. These conditions have allowed us to trace the formation and development of synonyms in Chinese language from two holistic perspectives, the synchronic and the diachronic.
