This paper describes Sidney Mintz as an anthropologist and his contribution to anthropology. The paper points out the main characteristics of his anthropological study, namely good ethnography, studying the local in global context, and locating anthropology in the contexts of local history and global capitalism. Prof. Mintz did his anthropological fieldwork in Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and Haiti and he contributed significantly to Caribbean studies. His anthropology emphasized the importance of history as well as doing oral history. After the publication of his book Sweetness and Power in 1985, he became known as an anthropologist of food, an area which he had contributed significantly since then until his death in December 2015. Throughout his long life, he had enjoyed food and good company and even in his old age, he found giving a lecture was still fun.
