Politeness Principle and Characteristics in Chinese and English Culture

礼貌作为一种语用现象在社会人际交往中起到至关重要的作用。然而在不同的文化背景中,礼貌原则也不相同。本文通过对汉英文化中的礼貌原则的分析与研究,进而了解其特征。通过对比,试探讨出两种文化中礼貌原则的相似性和差异性,从而帮助语言学习者更好地掌握语用知识,也增进汉英两种文化中交际双方彼此了解的程度。

Politeness as a pragmatic phenomenon plays a very important role in social relationship. Different cultural back- grounds have different politeness principles. This paper analyzes and studies the politeness principle in Chinese and English culture in order to know about its characters. By contrasting, this paper tries to find out the similarities and differences that politeness principles between these two cultures have. It is helpful for language learners to master the pragmatic knowledge. Meanwhile it increases the degree of mutual - understanding of Chinese and English culture as well.
