NING Tiaoyuan's Poetry Composition and Its Characteristics during his Three Year Imprisonment

1907—1909年是宁调元中期的诗歌创作。铁窗三年,宁调元"刻意治学问,暇则酌酒赋诗",其诗多方面展现了诗人在狱中的生存状况、丰富多姿的情感世界和昂扬奋发、坚贞崇高的人生境界。艺术上显露出一些与前一时期不同的特点:其一,诗中多用新名词。增添了恣纵开放的素质,诗人还在旧风格里试图创作新意境的诗歌;其二,多写联章体。

The yeas 1907 through 1909 marked NING Tiaoyuan’s middle period of poetic composition. During his imprisonment,he devoted himself to “deliberate academic commitment,together with drinking and poetic composition in leisure time. ” His po-ems depict his living conditions in the prison,efusive emotion and high mindednes. These poems stylistically difer from those in his earlier period of poetic composition. The first marked difference is his adoption of many new tems,which adds to his free and open willfulness,as he tried to compose classic poems with modern conceptions. Secondly,these poems often have multiple chapters.
