中国典籍中的古代度量衡英译研究——以高延《中国宗教体系》为例

A STUDY ON THE ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE ANCIENT METROLOGY IN CHINESE CLASSICS——TAKING THE RELIGIOUS SYSTEM OF CHINA BY J. J. M. DE GROOT FOR EXAMPLE

在国家大力鼓励中国文化走出去的战略下,代表中国传统文化的典籍英译是提升中国文化软实力的有效手段。而在各类典籍英译的过程中,出现了古代度量衡英译的难题。我国古代度量衡历史演变较长,单位较多,而且变化较大,典籍英译中很容易出现错误。本文以荷兰汉学家高延《中国宗教体系》典籍片段中的古代度量衡英译为例,探讨出古代度量衡的英译方法:音译+加注(度量衡简介及公制换算)。

Under the strategy that the country encourages Chinese culture to go out, the English translation of classics on behalf of the Chinese traditional culture is the effective means to enhance China5s cultural soft strength. While in the process of trans-lating all kinds of classics, the translation of the ancient metrology is a problem. Because the Chinese ancient metrology have undergone a long historical evolution, with the more units and the bigger change, English translation of classics is prone to er-rors. The paper, taking the English translation of the ancient classics fragment in The Religious System of China by J.J.M.de Groot for example, explores the English translation methods of the ancient metrology： the combination of transliteration and ex-planation （brief introduction and metric conversion of metrology ）.
