近代上海法租界的奠基人爱棠研究

Benot Edan,One of Founders of the French Concession in Shanghai

爱棠在上海任职14年,全心全意致力于法租界的事业,他创建了公董局,组织了法国义勇队和法租界巡捕房,并草创了各项市政制度,成为法租界真正的奠基人。然而这样一个重要的历史人物,却长期被学界所忽视,并被错误地认为他只是一个来自洋行的职员。本文根据法国外交部档案馆关于爱棠的法文档案,较为完整地复原了爱棠的曲折人生经历,并对其历史地位与社会贡献进行客观评价。

Benot Edan worked for the French Consulate in Shanghai for fourteen years and played quite a significant role in the founding of French concession in Shanghai.The contributions he made included the creation of Conseil d' administration municipale de la concession franaise à Shanghai,the organization of Corps de Volontaires de la Concession Francaise,as wellthe establishment of Garde Municipale.Digging into concerned archives in the Centre des Archives diplomatiques de la Courneuve,the present paper attempts to more completely and objectively reconstruct the whole life of Beno? t Edanand in particular his life in Shanghai.
