Cultural Functions of Notes in English Translation of Chu Ci

近百年来,西方汉学家陆续翻译出版了《楚辞》的各种英译本,为推动中西文学的交流和发展做出了积极贡献,总结他们的翻译成就和影响,是目前典籍翻译研究的热门话题之一,但现有的研究对汉学家的译本注释关注不够。《楚辞》的译注不仅是重要的翻译策略,而且是反映了译者对中国文学翻译叙述的弥补功能、阐释功能、延伸功能、传承功能和重塑功能,译本的注释对中国文化经典外译的传播和接受具有重要启示意义。

For a century, the Western Sinologists, having published various types of English translations of Chu Ci, have made a great contribution to the literary exchange between China and the West. It is a heatedly-discussed topic to explore their translation achievements and influences, but the significance of their annotations beyond the translated texts is largely neglected. These annotations are not merely translation strategies. They also reflect the translators＇ compensatory, interpretative, extended, continuing and remoldeling functions as the cultural narration of the translated Chinese cuhure. In addition, the annotation methods of translated texts are revealing to the transmission and reception of Chinese cultural classic translation.
