Cognitive linguistics holds that there is a meta- phoric thinking in human brain by use of metaphor and poetic description. So, metaphor is absolutely necessary when we consider the rhetoric cause of poetic language in LIN Bai＇ s novels. It brings aesthetic appreciation of language extension for readers by using strangeness and blank spot. Conclusion is that poetic language is not only Chinese traditional linguistic heritage , but also the useful attempt to push the change of literary style.
