Notre Dame de Paris is a masterpiece by the French writer Victor Hugo in the eighteenth century. Its rich romantic implications have moved numerous readers due to its the ex- pression of the souls of the characters and the author＇ s passion and ideals. This paper adopts the theory of sublimation from the aesthetic perspective, and analyzes the sublimation-related factors embodied in the protagonist Quasimodo, that is, the gradual transcendence of reason and emotion as well as the obstacles in reality which embodies the conflicts between the subject and the object, a mirror of human sublimation and greatness.
