A Discussion on Qin Guan's Path of Thinking and His Emotion for Helping the Needy

秦观初字太虚,主要受张载"太虚即气"的唯物主义宇宙元气本体论的影响,导向建功立业的实践,而改字少游则归心于东汉马少游,是普通士人低微自适的人生选择。秦观内心一直存在着太虚心境与马少游情结的矛盾,但终以太虚精神为主体,不忘济世之初心。秦观是名士、才士,更属国士,禀浩然之正气,负忧患之意识,具经世之实学。

Qin Guan（ 秦观） had his first courtesy name as Taixu（ 太虚） in the sense of the universe. This courtesy name was derived from Zhang Zai＇s（ 张载） philosophical idea that the universe is Qi（ 太虚即气）,which was a materialist ontology of the primordial constituent materials of the universe,leading him to the practice of making achievements. Later,he changed his courtesy name into Shaoyou（ 少游） after Ma Shaoyou（ 马少游） who was an ordinary scholar of the Eastern-Han Dynasty,intending to make a choice of low-profile life. He continuously had an internal contradiction between his mind of the universe and his Ma Shaoyou complex. However,he always took the spirit of the universe as the mainstay,and stayed true to his initial wish to help the needy. Qin Guan was not only a famous and talented scholar,but also an outstanding personage of the country,with his noble spirit,sense of urgency and authentic learning.
