湘鄂边苏区,是中共中央直接策划,由贺龙、周逸群等领导创建的,是起步最早、斗争时间最长的苏区之一。其大致演变历程为:湘鄂边苏区先发展为湘鄂西苏区,并在土地革命后期成为湘鄂川黔苏区的重要组成部分。湘鄂边苏区红四军的诞生和发展,为人民军队的建设作出重大贡献,起到了牵制敌人和策应、配合其他苏区的作用。此外,苏区军民为革命付出了巨大牺牲。

The Hunan and Hubei Border Soviet Area was planned directly by the Central Committee of the CPC and led by He long and Zhou Yiqnn. It was one of the earliest soviet areas which struggled for the longest time. The Hunan and Hubei Border Soviet Area has generally gone through the evolution process as follow： it firstly developed into the Hunan - Hubei western Soviet area and then became an important part of the Soviet area in the border area of Hunan, Hubei, Chongqing and Guizhou in the late period of the Agrarian Revolutionary War. The establishment and development of the Red Fourth Army in the Hunan- Hubei Border Soviet Area contributed greatly to the construction of the people＇s army. It has also played a role in pinning down the enemy, supporting and＇coordinating with other Soviet areas. Besides, the Soviet soldiers and civilians have made great sacrifices for the revolution.
