The Repetition of Image in Chekhov's Novellas and Short Stories

In Chekhov＇s novellas and short stories, the skillful manipulation of ＂repetition＂ plays an important role in forming his unique style. As an effective narrative strategy, the occurrence of repeated image is a particularly prominent trait in his novellas and short stories. Based on detailed text analysis, this paper discusses the three main functions of the repeated image in Chekhov＇ s novellas and short stories： generating symbolic meanings, portraying images of characters and developing narrative plots.
