The Developmental Logic of the Western Historiography of Technology: Focusing on SHOT

把国际技术史委员会(SHOT)在技术史学理论方面的成果与变迁,作为理解西方技术史学理论变迁过程及其内在逻辑的切入点,利用《技术与文化》的史学专题讨论、其他相关论著和SHOT年会资料,系统梳理SHOT各发展阶段技术史学理论的基本旨趣、核心议题与关键特征,对其变迁动力进行逻辑解释,从而把SHOT群体在不同时期针对不同问题作出的理论反思构建成一幅完整的学术发展地图。这为把握当今技术史的发展取向提供了历史依据,也为中国技术史研究提供理论参照。

A promising approach to understanding the development process of western historiography of technology and its inner logic is to take the Society for History of Technology（SHOT） as a case, which is the most influential academic organization in the field, to investigate the genealogy constructed by its works on historical theories on technology. By researching the historiographical discussions published in TC, concerned books, and documents of SHOT＇s annual meetings, the article, therefore, systematically analyzes the basic interests, core issues, and crucial characteristics of those historiogra- phical discussions in each phrase of SHOT , and logically explains the dynamics of change, so that those fragmentary theoretical reflections on diverse problems in different phrases are made up an integral academic map. The study will provide historical base for understanding the developmental orientation of current historical studies of technology, and give a theoretical reference frame for Chinese history of technology.
