A Brief Discussion of the Ideological Trend of Practical Utility of the Late Qing Dynasty History

在中国历史上,史学经世思想源远流长。清初以来,考据之风日盛。迨至道咸之际,外敌入侵,列强环伺,民族危机空前严重。出于强烈的现实关怀,学者们反思乾嘉学术之弊,重溯清初"经世致用"的治史方法,并加以传承,史学经世思潮再度勃兴。

The ideas of history for practical utility in China has a long history： Since the early Qing dynasty, the textual research has been popular till the period of Daoguang and Xianfeng when foreign invasion and great powers overwhelm our country. National crisis became unprecedentedly severe at that time. Out of strong realistic concerns, scholars began to reflect the academic shortcomings of Qianlong and Jiaqing period. They also retrace the researching method of ＂practical thoughts for social utility＂ in the early Qing dynasty and continuously inherit this thought, from then on, the trend of practical thoughts grew thriving again.
