Liu Wuchi was a renowned scholar in the world. He taught English language and literature in China and taught Chinese language and literature in the United States. His main thougJlts of language and literature might be concluded as follows： stressing the balance ofliterature and literature; integrating ofteaching and research, supporting students to pursue extra-curricular societies and academic research. His thoughts show his deep insights into language and literature teaching. Up to now, his legacy of thoughts can offer useful suggestions for the reform of language and literature education in higher education.
