Black women are a distinctive and representative group in American society for the double shackles of race and gender they have to carry. Though not the mainstream group of American social life, they have suffered much more than Black men and white women of their time. But their traditional image as benighted and obedient was overthrown in Uncle Tom＇s Cabin, in which several black women offered enlightenment to the liberation of the whole group with their own self-liberation from being passive at the beginning to being awakened and to seeking reunion and freedom at last. A reader may acquire a spiritual force from such figures and their charms in any literary works like the novel and drive themselves to keep moving ahead.
