《红楼梦》英译本与翻译欠载探究

A Study on Undertranslation in English Versions of The Dream of Red Mansions

翻译欠载是文学作品翻译中难以避免的现象,其原因在于译者未能准确把握作者的初衷,译作最终导致目的语读者不明就里,出现文化缺失,影响跨文化交际的进程。根据英国翻译家彼得·纽马克提出的翻译欠额理论,本文建议译者在翻译时应充分考虑作品源语与目的语之间的联系,灵活采用归化与异化方法,结合文化补偿手段,最大限度地实现文学作品的有效翻译。

Undertranslation may occur when a translator＇s failure to understand the author＇s original intention results in his readers＇ confusion with his translation out of cultural loss which hinders intercultural communication. On the basis of Peter Newmark＇s theory, the paper proposed that a translator pay sufficient attention to the links between the source language and the target language to achieve an effective translation of literature works by applying domestication and foreignization flexibly together with cultural compensation.
