A Case Study of Anti-extremist Strategies Employed by Higher Education Institutions in the UK

恐怖威胁越来越多地源自国内极端化分子的现实,突出了反极端化在整个反恐努力中的重要地位,使高校和反极端化问题有了相关性。在这样的背景下,英国从国家层面对高校提出了新的要求和法律义务。国家层面的要求给高校施加了压力,同时也明确了努力的方向。各高校从制度保障和观念应对两个方面,采取了一系列的措施。对英国个案的分析有助于理解在反极端化努力中,国家、社会对高校的期待及高校可能的作为和措施。

Nowadays,an increasingly greater number of terrorists in the UK are homegrown extremists rather than Muslims coming in from abroad. Against such backdrop,UK government called for'immediate action'from colleges and universities to help prevent and combat extremism. The government not just pressured higher education institutions( HEIs) to fight against extremism,but also provided them helpful suggestions about how to do that. As a result,HEIs in the UK adopted a series of preventive measures,encouraging dialog and discussion among people of different opinions at the same time. Anti-extremist strategies employed by HEIs in the UK are also applicable for colleges and universities in other countries.
