Sub-Saharan Africa is an important part of broad Islamic world. Therefore,Islamism, originated in the Middle East, has also been inevitable spread to Africa. The rise and development of African Islamism has been affected not only by outside factors, but also internal factors including complex ethnic religious relationships,multi-party democratization trend, underdeveloped economic society and relative low level of nation-state integration.Although Islamist thoughts and movements will not change the moderate and inclusive African Islam fundamentally, its negative impacts on multiple levels cannot be ignored.Islamism will become a long-term existing problem in Africa. However, due to internal contradictions coupled with growing efforts from African countries and international community in containing it,it would be difficult for it to achieve greater development.
