The Sound and the Fury is praised highly by most literary critics as a remarkable paragon of the stream of consciousness novels. This is to a great extent due to Faulkners creative literary techniques in depicting the characters' mental activities. It comprises four sections which are narrated respectively by four people of Compsons family from their own point of view. The author uses modern literary techniques, such as multiple point of view, chronological juxtaposition and stream of consciousness, etc. to portray different characters, proving himself a master in his control of language, in his command of narrative technique and in his highly original organization of material.
