陕北剪纸属于原始艺术,是没有经过现代文明浸染的民俗文化.至今,它仍然沿袭着丧葬文化、婚俗文化、礼仪文化的宗教功用.它起源于巫术、生殖崇拜以及图腾崇拜,审美认知较为低级、粗浅、简单、直接和本能,只能以浅显、简陋、直接和机械的表现形式来描摹眼前的客观事物.因此,陕北剪纸更加具有象征性和隐喻性,作品更显抽象,寓意也更加深刻,主题则包蕴其中.

Shaanxi paper-cuts is an original art , a type of folk culture barely influenced by modem civiliza-tion. So far, it still functions religiously in the aspect of the funeral culture, marriage culture and etiquette cul-ture. It originated from witchcraft, procreation apotheosis and totem worship with a shallow, simple, direct and instinct aesthetic cognition, and it can depict objectivesin plain, simple, direct and mechanical ways. There-fore ,the paper-cuts is more symbolic and metaphorical, more abstract in its works and has more profound mean-ings in its themes.
