Molly is a female character most brilliantly portrayed and most controversial in the novel Ulysses by James Joyce. Critics and scholars have so far identifi ed Molly no longer as the traditional image of a dissolute woman and nymphomaniac, because the conventional negative assessments of her could not conceal her as the paragon of being unconventional and pursuing independence. Based on the perspective of feminism, this paper attempts to analyze the in-depth implication of Molly who is created by Joyce with the aim of subverting the traditional binary opposition of sex and autocracy of patriarchal society. By doing so, Joyce attempted to make human nature return to reason, and establish the direction for the future development of Irish people and their religious culture, meanwhile, it also reveals the author’s humanistic sympathy and concern over the social plight of the Irish women.
