CHINA’S efforts in its drive to promote the rule of law took a major leap forward when the Fifth Session of the 12th National People’s Congress(NPC)passed the General Provisions of the Civil Law at its closing meeting on March 15.The landmark occasion in China’s legal history will culminate in the Provisions becoming effective on October 1 and will be the opening chapter of a civil code planned to be enacted in 2020.
