Meaning is a common concern in philosophy and translation.The essence of translation is equivalent transfer of meaning from source language to target language.Based on the five influential kinds of theories of meaning in philosophy,this paper analyzes the gains and losses of them,and suggests the implications in reshaping up of meaning in the translating process.All these theories are helpful to the further development of translation studies.
