The Concept of Social Control in Early American and Chinese Sociology

源自19世纪欧洲社会思想的"社会控制"观念,在美国早期社会学中得到系统地阐述和运用,成为社会学研究的一个基本概念;中国早期社会学深受美国社会学的影响,相关研究者将"社会控制"概念引介到中国社会学研究中并对其含义进行了"中国化"的阐述。这种社会学概念的"因侨致易"现象可视为"侨易学"研究的又一个例证。

The concept of social control as a basic concept in sociology is established and elaborated primarily in early A- merican sociology, though it originated from European social thought in the nineteenth century. It is well known that the development of Chinese sociology in the first half of twentieth century was under the great influence of American sociolo- gy, the concept of social control was then naturally introduced into Chinese sociological studies. It＇s worth noting that some of Chinese sociologists have reformulated the concept in respect of its meanings and applications according to Chinese tradition. In other words, it became a Sinicized concept. In this connection, the comparative study in this essay can be seen as another case study in Qiao-Yi-ology.
