美国人眼中的“东京审判”——基于“季南档案”的历史考察

Tokyo Trial in Americans' Point of View——An investigation focuses on Joseph Berry Keenan's Archives

东京审判是战后远东国际军事法庭在日本东京对二战中日本甲级战犯进行的国际大审判。它惩罚了战争罪犯,维护了国际法的尊严,促进了世界和平。哈佛大学燕京图书馆所藏"季南档案"中保存有大量与东京审判相关的材料。通过对这些新史料进行系统的梳理,可以发现东京审判过程中所存在的一些问题尚未引起学界的重视:东京审判在当时的美国国内几乎没有广泛宣传,缺乏社会认知;当时参加东京审判的美方人员整体素质也极其低下。这些事实清晰地表明了美国人对于东京审判不重视的态度。"季南档案"为东京审判的相关研究提供了一个美国视角,这大为充实了人们对于东京审判的认知。

Joseph Berry Keenan＇s Archives held at Harvard Yenching Library contain a multitude of historical materials re lated to Tokyo Trial. After a comprehensive analysis of these materials, we can find out several serious problems existed in the process of Tokyo Trial, namely there are few reports about the trial in America; and American staff who took part in the trial are almost all incompetent. These facts clearly illustrate that Americans pay little attention to the trial. Joseph Berry Keenan＇s Archives provides an American perspective about the trial, and it greatly strengthens people＇s understand- ing about Tokyo Trial.
