视觉文化研究是当代学术研究的新领域,也是当前学术界的一个热门话题。加拿大康科迪亚大学的段炼博士在视觉文化艺术研究领域著述颇丰,主要有《视觉文化与视觉艺术符号学:艺术史研究的新视角》、《视觉的愉悦与挑战:艺术传播与图像研究》、《图像丛林:当代艺术批评》等著作。他从符号阐释的语境与本体的符号关系为视角,结合艺术史的发展,深入研究艺术作品的图像符号及其意义阐释,揭示了视觉文化对现当代文化生态和艺术观念的影响与作用,并在西方后现代主义的情境下,探讨中国本土的艺术文化现象,探索中国气象的视觉文化理论。

Dr. Duan Lian works in Concordia University, Canada and he is a very popular scholar and writer in the field of visual culture academic research. His recent works include Visual Culture and Visual Art Semeiology, Vision： Between Pleasure and challenge, Personal essays about the Images around, etc. He reveals the roles and influences of contemporary cultural ecology and the art conception of visual culture from the perspective of symbolic interpretation in the terms of the meanings of art works, and to deeply explore the Chinese theory of visual culture in the context of the contemporary art history.
