李则纲的《从农村破产想到陶渊明》是研究陶渊明的另类之作。作为历史学家,李则纲立足于19世纪30年代的中国农村社会的现实,以深邃的史学洞察力和敏感的政治观察力,发掘了陶渊明特有的社会价值——拯救农村。他以中国哲学的"知足知止"论为理论基点,挖掘并论证陶渊明回归田园的社会价值。他认为陶渊明是士人回归田园的榜样,是知足知止的典范,号召从事农村工作的朋友效仿陶渊明,到乡村去复兴农村。他又认为陶渊明的怀古情怀和空想社会对改良社会、建设乡村没有积极的意义。同时,陶渊明是真能了解人生意义的第一个人,是农村里的哲人,原因在于农村育成了陶渊明的素志、农村铸就了陶渊明的人生观、村居生活的苦与乐使陶渊明的人生境界得以提升。

Based on the social reality in China＇ s rural areas in 1930s, Li Zegang explored Tao Yuanming＇s social value to save the depressed countryside, with profound historical insight and sensitive political observation using philosophical theory of contentment and moderately done in Taoism, Li Zegang demonstrated the social value of Tao Yuanming＇ s return to the countryside, and he thought Tao Yuan- ruing is an example to return to the countryside and a model of satisfaction and know stop.
