Study on the Horse Trade Between Early Chosun and Ming Dynasty

朝鲜与明朝一直保持着密切的宗藩关系,两国之间贸易频繁,形式多样,内容丰富。朝鲜初期,在对明朝进行的官方和买贸易中,相对而言,马贸易占了很大的比重。从高丽禑王时期开始到朝鲜文宗时期的64年间,朝鲜共向明朝输入了73945匹马,完成了11次马贸易,这样的贸易规模在历史上是史无前例的。朝鲜与明朝之间进行的马贸易是在两国日益紧密的政治关系中的变相体现,也是朝鲜加强对明政治关系的筹码。

Chosun maintained a close vassal relationship with China in the Ming Dynasty.There were frequent trades which were rich in content and also diversified in forms between the two countries.In early days of Chosun,the horse trade took up a comparatively large proportion in all the official trades with China.In 64 years from Goryeo U＇wang to Munjong,Chosun had exported73945 horses and achieved eleven horse transactions.The scale of such trade was unprecedented in history.The horse trade between Chosun and China was a disguised reflection of the growing political relationship between the two countries.Chosun used it as a bargaining chip to enhance the political relationship with China in the Ming Dynasty.
