Nanomaterials with strong near-infrared ab- sorption and high photothermal conversion ability have shown great application potential in many ar- eas including cancer treatment. However, the cur- rent photothermal conversion nanomaterials general- ly have poor biodegradability and would stay in the body for a long period of time accentuating risk of deleterious effects, which limit their clinic appli- cations. Recently, we have developed a kind of biodegradable photothermal conversion nanomaterial based on black phosphorus, a newly developed two-dimensional semiconductor. It has been found that black phosphorus has high photothermal conver- sion ability, and can degrade into nontoxic phos- phate and phosphonate in aqueous media.
