The cooperation between UPS and BNSF is one of the most successful cases in which express companies use railway transport for express delivery. This article examines the background of cooperation between both companies from three perspectives, namely government policies, industrial characteristics, and edges of the companies. It analyzes the concrete cooperative measures taken by them in the configuration of professional facilities and equipment, the layout of UPS sorting center and railway goods yard, train schedules, use of automated security inspection equipment, sharing of in｜brmation, etc. It also evaluates the effect of cooperation between the two sides in terms of the rapid growth of revenues from freight transport, the accelerated gathering of railway companies and express enterprises in the Chicago area, the enhancement of the social image of UPS, etc. Based on these, it concludes that policy support from the government is the premise of the cooperation of express and railway companies, complete facilities and equipment are the key to the cooperation, and complementarity and mutual benefit are the way for a long-term and stable partnership.
