"时髦"一词在《汉语大词典》中有两个义项,一为"当代的俊杰",一为"新颖趋时"。"髦"本义为发中的长豪,后用来指代俊杰之士。"时髦"一词最早始见于《后汉书》,意为当代俊杰。清代白话小说中,"时髦"一词生出新义。其意义的演变及其发展,反映出其义项的关联性及其语义来源和构词理据。

时髦 has two meanings in Chinese dictionary, one of them is contemporary excellent people, the other is fashionable. The original meaning of 髦 was long hair, slowly it was used to refer to excellent people. For the first time the word of 时髦 was connected to- gether in the Book of the Later Han, which meant contemporary excellent people, 时髦 had a new meaning in the vernacular novels in the Qing dynasty. Its evolution and development reflects its semantic relevance and source as well as word- building grounds.
