From Toni Morrison to Terri Macmillan: Evolution and Development of Contemporary American Black Female Literature

Since 1920s, American black literature has been developing rapidly. During this period, the excellent black female writers combined their own experience, with keen insight, unique female perspective and superb writ- ing skills to establish tradition of black female literature. With development of society, black female literature also follows steps of times closely, reflects characteristics of times. From Tony Morrison in 1970s to Terri - McMillan in 1990s, black female writings in themes of sisterhood, motherhood and career have new annotation and connota- tion, highlight evolution and development of contemporary American female literature.
