Derivation by Initial-change refers to the change of initial consonant of a chinese syllable to create a new word related in meaning to the base word.In Interpretation of the Classics by Lu Deming there are 388 notations of zhāo (朝),of which 356 phonetic notations derive from the initial-change of zhāo (朝).By analyzing these 356 phonetic notations and materials of other annotators of the middle ancient times,this article uses the theoretical method of modern linguistics to study the development of the sounds and meanings of the base word of '朝' and its derivations.
