Japan is an important overseas farmland investor with more than three times as much as its domestic arable land. China is one of the emerging overseas farmland investors, whose massive population and tight balance of food supply compel Chinese enterprises to invest in overseas farmland. According to Chinese and Japanese overseas farmland in-vestment cases listed in the global overseas farmland investment condition 2000-2013 issued by the Land Matrix website, the article makes a comparative study of China' s and Japan's overall status and characteristics of overseas farmland investment including investment body, investment area, investment mode and policy support, and analyzes the diffe-rences of overseas farmland investment between the two countries to learn from Japan and provide references for Chi-nese enteiprises.
