《文字蒙求》一书是一部特色鲜明的文字学入门读物,对我们今天的汉字教学与研究深有启发。作为蒙书,其突出特点大体有四:一是在内容取舍方面,简明生动,适于童蒙;二是在结构体例方面,条分缕析,提纲挈领;三是在辨析字际关系方面,联系比较,揭明异同;四是在继承许学传统方面,析疑辨误,融会贯通。当然,受时代局限,书中也还存在小类划分琐细、界说不清以及部分字例说解不够允洽的问题。

IFm Zi Meng Qiu, written by Wang Yun, philologist in Qing Dynasty, is the ABC of philology with distinguishing features, and it enlightens the teaching and research of Chinese characters. As enlighten-ment reading materials, it mainly has four striking features. First, the chosen content is concise and lively, and is suitable for children’s education; Second, the structure and style are analyzed thoroughly and concen-trate on the main points; Third, in discriminating the word connection, the similarities and differences are re-vealed by connection and contrast; Fourth, in carrying on the tradition of philology represented by Xu Shen, it resolves the doubts and differentiates the mistakes and achieves mastery through a comprehensive study of the subject. Certainly, because of the limitations of the times, there exist such problems as the trivial division of categories, the blurred definition and the inappropriate explanation of some character examples.
