Written by Roland Recht, Le croire et le voir： I＇art des cathedrales, Xlle-XVe siecle （1999） is the most significant academic work on Gothic Art in recent years. Basing on the retrospection of tradition, Recht composed a history of the research methods and achievements of Gothic Art, which reflects the development trend of Art History from 19 -20th century. By re-evaluating the interaction between Gothic Art＇s form, function, audience and religious thoughts along with rituals, he demon- strated the enhanced visual trend in the art of late Middle Ages, hence innovated the readers＇ comprehensions of Gothic Art.
