When Will You Return sung by Zhou Xuan as an episode to the film Stars Moving Around The Moon became widely popular in wartime of Shanghai and it played an important part in dispelling people' s depression in The Islet where it had no freedom of speech because of the political highhandedness from Japan. At the same time, the lyrics were changed and endowed with a thinking of the resistance to Japan, which could not be expressed directly in the concession. The Kuomin Government announced a ban against singing the song. While the failing of the prohibition means that it is futile to try to control literature and art.
