This paper reviews the development of the Internet and the emerging of social media. Social media extends to the field of education by its flexibility and participation, meanwhile it changes the traditional teaching mode. From the teaching subject, teaching object, teaching content and teaching form, social media flips the classroom. Social media integrates formal education and informal education, expands the studying crowds and teaching crowds, and offers supports from the conventional education to lifelong learning. Social media has contributed to the field of education.
