Although the incidence has been well improved as the development of surgical manipulations and instruments for anastomosis, anastomosis-related complications are inevitable sometimes. If the anastomosis-related complications happen, not only the mortality of patients and length of hospital stay were increased, but the subsequent treatments were also delayed and the long-term prognosis of patients was impacted finally. Therefore, in order to decease its incidence and impacts on the patients, surgeons should prevent and treat the anastomosis-related complications scientifically through improving the surgical manipulations and increasing the knowledge about anatomic and physiological features of gastrointestinal tract, mechanisms of anastomotic tissue healing, and systemic and local factors which could influence the tissue healing of anastomosis.
