Both Xiao Hong's Market Street and Hayashi Fumiko's Vagabond's Diary are women's au- tobiographical works, which tell the stories of Chinese and Japanese women at the beginning of the twentieth century's who were pursuing freedom and individual liberation. Hungry is the same topic and personal life is the common content of the two works, and both of the two works embody concerns for lower-class people with a personal vision. Therefore, the two works are both about women's self- writing and self-identity as well as national historical thinking under the similar historic background and individual circumstances. On the other hand, the two works also have great differences in content selection about love and family affection, as well as in emotional keynote about depression and brightness, because of different creative environment and narrative background.
