As the only full - length novel of Chen Zhongshi, Bailuyuan reflects that saying ＂The novel is con- sidered to be the secret history of a nation＂ by Balzac. All the characters are vivid and different, whose characteris- tics and language are inseparable and mutual. In order to recognize and understand the spirit of the characters, cul- tural connotation and the theme that the author tries to show, this article will discuss the impassion of characters＇ language and evaluate the value of literary works objectively, and explore the role of language in characterization from the perspective of language overall and dialect vocabulary.
