On the New Heroism in The Water Margin

《水浒传》在明代就曾与《三国演义》被合刻为《英雄谱》。相对于《三国演义》中正统的救世济民的英雄主义,《水浒传》体现的英雄主义具有鲜明的时代特色,受市民阶层思想观念的影响更深,倾向于以自我为核心,最大化追求精神利益与物质利益的特点,呈现出有悖于传统英雄观的新特征。

The Water Margin and The Romance of Three Kingdoms have been printed as YingXiongPu in the Ming dynasty. Compare to the heroism of lineal usaving thought in The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the heroism in The Water Margin has reflected the special characteristics of the times. It had deeper influence by citizen’s ideas,inclined to selfishness and maximized the benefits of the spirit and material. The new opposite feature of the traditional hero ideas has been assumed in The Water Margin.
