杨廷和在纂修《明武宗实录》期间的一些修史举措及影响一直未被学界予以较多关注。其在史料择取、力倡节俭、厘正曲笔、人员选拔等方面颇有贡献。嗣后,"大礼议"兴起,随着杨廷和的去职,史馆中与其持相近立场的修史人员多遭贬谪而未能出现在最终修纂人员名录中。总体而言,杨氏为修史工作提供支持的同时,亦卷入了任意增减史材及人物评价失实之訾议。

During the compilation of Memoir of Ming Wuzong, some measures and effects of Yang Tinghe, has not been the main concern in academic circles. Yang Tinghe made certain contributions to the selection of historical materials, advocating thrift, correction of the distortion of facts of Memoir of Ming Wuzong, and personnel selection. Since Da Li Yi arose, Yang Tinghe resigned his post and those who supported his political views failed to appear in the final list of compilers. In general, his efforts to support the work of the compilation of Memoir of Ming Wuzong also made him into the criticism of his casual selecting and evaluations.
