To improve the quality and efficiency of the large - scale adjustment of collection of books in the universi- ty libraries, it is crucial that the shelf - position measurement has to be done well in advance. Using the library au- tomatic management systemcalculates library collection of books, the average thickness of various categories of books, the needed shelves for various categories of available books and the reserved shelves for various categories of future new books, consequently, determines the starting shelf position of each of the first class books and subclass books.
